A coordinated reporting system across two formats

For Caterpillar’s 2024 and 2025 annual and sustainability reports, I developed and evolved a coordinated editorial system across two very different formats. The annual report distilled performance, strategy, and shareholder information into a concise portrait section leading into the 10-K; the sustainability report extended the same voice across goals, customer solutions, operations, people, governance, and detailed ESG disclosures.

Compared with 2023, the 2024 redesign moved away from a more conventional hexagon-led corporate template toward a bolder editorial expression: oversized typography, decisive yellow-and-black fields, clearer navigation, and more varied relationships between photography, data, and narrative. In 2025, the system became more technical and future-facing, using linework, spatial framing, and a lighter typographic voice to connect Caterpillar’s centennial with its next generation of products, strategy, and sustainability performance.
