Designing NPR for iPad

Role
Lead designer for NPR for iPad
Mandate
Redesign NPR’s tablet experience as an in-house product
Scale
In-house collaboration across strategy, user experience, design, development, and project management
Outcome
Surpassed 1.7 million downloads following launch

NPR for iPad reimagined how audiences could browse, read, and listen to NPR’s journalism on a tablet.

This in-house redesign brought strategy, user experience, design, development, and project management together around one tablet experience. NPR publishes a wide range of stories, programs, stations, streams, and podcasts; the interface needed to make that breadth intuitive without competing with the journalism.

As lead designer, I helped shape a gesture-rich, visually driven system organized around card-based discovery, integrated reading and listening, program browsing, bookmarking, and station search.

The product surpassed 1.7 million downloads following launch.
